CannaSmack Hemp Infused Lotions and Lip Balms are Divine
Since CannaSmack’s inception in 2014, co-owners Kenia Taylor and Suzanne Hoggan have successfully launched the cannabis industry’s most compassionate and health-conscious line of lotions, balms, and SPF products. Taylor and Hoggan initially conceived of the idea after experiencing adverse reactions to the chemicals found in most skin care products and thought others with similar sensitivities had something to gain from their products as well. Here at VIRIDE, we were really intrigued and just had learn more. You can read our insightful interview with Taylor from earlier this year. In addition, we thought it wise to try out some of the products, too, in order to give you a first person view of what the fuss is all about.
A little background...CannaSmack’s products are cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, and are sourced from the highest quality Oregon hemp seed oil. They contain zero parabens and sulfates, and are completely non-psychoactive. In other words, “No, they won’t make you high!” In case you were wondering, and most do. Hemp seed oil is chalk-full of vitamins and minerals like Omega-3, Omega-6, Vitamins A, E, D, B12, and beeswax is added to both their balms and lotions to nourish skin and protect from it from the elements. The skin easily absorbs these nutrients, all while providing a non-oily application. The latter is one of the biggest pluses, in my opinion. I really hate feeling oily and it’s rare you find lotion that doesn’t make you feel like that.
When I received my lotions and balms, I was psyched to find that Kenia Taylor sent me three out of the four hemp-infused body lotions offered, as well as the Natural Collection Pack, which includes a variety of hemp-infused balms named after well-known cannabis strains. Cherry Cough, Blue Dream, Pineapple Express, Maui Wowie, and Mango Kush all had a go with my eager lips. They leave my lips the softest they’ve ever felt. Not to mention, a little goes a long way.
Cherry Cough is obviously reminiscent of that classic cherry flavor. Blue Dream smells of fresh blueberries. Pineapple Express, my favorite, is a lot like rubbing a juicy piece of raw pineapple against you. Maui Wowie is like cracking open a coconut somewhere on a beach in Hawaii. And Mango Kush smells less like mangos and more like peaches.
The 8 oz. bottle of Wild Orange Crush hydrating body lotion is another favorite. It’s like embedding real-life citrus into every pore in my skin. It stimulates similarly to the terpene profiles naturally found in citrus fruit and the scent awakens both body and mind. I enjoy using it in the morning after my shower. It’s the perfect way to start the day. The other 2 oz. bottles, Day Tripper Delight and HappyTokes Peach, smell like Skittles and Starburst, respectively...if a Skittles and Starburst equivalent could be found in nature, that is.
Because the cannabis industry can be a tricky one in our current political climate, Taylor and Hoggan don’t limit themselves to the business of just running a company. Fighting for causes they believe in in order to promote well-being is sewn directly into the cloth of the company’s fiber. A philosophy that promotes caring for all things in our environment and ecosystem and that encourages ethical skin care is upheld with the utmost pride.
They recently teamed up with PETA for a charity initiative whereby a dollar from the sale of their newest vegan lip balm selection was donated to the organization to spread worldwide awareness of these issues. Furthermore, Cannasmack’s #FreeTheLeaf campaign, in partnership with NORML, is another heartfelt effort to end of the imprisonment of cannabis through education and access to high quality medicine. Recently, they came out with a premium skin care line, CannaSmack Luxe. I’m looking forward to trying that out next!
