High Volume: Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
Festival season is upon us, which means every weekend for the rest of summer we will either being heading to a festival or wishing we were at one. Besides the music, dancing, outfit planning, and overall fun in the sun with friends, there's nothing better than picking those perfect sets to get high with your crew (and those around you).
First up, Coachella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh... okay you get it.
With the lineup this year, well, we have a lot to choose from that's for sure (and not the worst problem to have). Here are the sets we wouldn't miss to reach a higher consciousness:
Let's be real, lineup-wise, this is the day you will be most blazed... I mean, no matter what the timing of the schedule is, this is going to be a back to back day for you. It's convenient that Friday is 4/20 the second weekend of Coachella. So stock up on water and snacks and get your dancing shoes on. The headliner is The Weeknd so that is self-explanatory... but we also have SZA.
SZA, what a true fucking kween. Hell I feel like if you ran into her out on the field she'd fucking make sure you had a joint in hand or access to one. Her debut album Ctrl is a straight up masterpiece and seeing her live is going to be one of the best shows you've ever been to, so why not already feel like you're on a cloud- because you will by the end of her set either way.
Holy fucking shit Jamiroquai... My heart is racing just thinking about the dance workout this set is going to provide. This might even be a candy type of show. Their blend of funk, disco, and house makes for a set you absolutely cannot miss- I mean, it is straight going to go off during "Canned Heat" you might get lost in a cloud of dirt from all the dancing in the desert, so don't freak out and as they say, just dance!
Daniel Cesar is a perfect for a chill, slow dancing, baby making music high. So grab your love, crush, or that hottie you saw in line for the bathroom and get blazing.
Kelela Kelela Kelela!!! You definitely gonna one light one up for this sensual dance party brought to you by the queen Kelela. Her music has a sick 90s nostalgia that will get your body moving and heart beating.
Set your body free on the dance floor at Black Coffee's set. I mean if you want to pregame watch his 3-hour set below. To be honest I could literally go to a Coachella of just Black Coffee playing the entire time, dude knows how to make you move.
Perfume Genius will take you to another dimension. This incredible groundbreaking artist makes exhilarating music, videos, and his live shows are a thrilling and electrifying and you are going to want to experience it for yourself with your favorite strain.
Beyonce is headlining, and whatever you do, don't get high during Beyonce. My friend did and it wasn't good, just let Beyonce be your high, trust me. You have the rest of the day with David Byrne, Alt-J, Jungle, Tash Sultana, Django Django, and Jorja Smith. Continue your high by seeing Chic feat. the music genius/icon Nile Rodgers, my dream boyfriend Tom Misch, Alvvays, Angel Olsen, Sudan Archives, and Ron Gallo. Okay so basically everyone, everyone but Beyonce.
David Byrne (Talking Heads) "Naive Melody (This Must Be The Place)"
Alt-J "Every Other Freckle"
Jungle "Busy Earnin'
Tash Sultana "Notion"
Django Django "Default"
Jorja Smith "On My Mind"
Sunday is last day for your last Coachella highs, so make it count with Cardi B, King Krule, Kamasi Washington, Jessie Ware, FIDLAR, Lion Babe, Giraffage, and Nothing But Thieves. You have every genre you could ever love in this mix so make sure you check out as many of these acts as you can. You have your daily dose of rap, rock, jazz, and dance in this lineup so go where the music takes you. Trust the process. You got this.
